What to Expect at Orientation
Once you have been admitted to CLA, your next step is to confirm your enrollment by returning the enrollment confirmation form and confirmation fee.
After you confirm that you will be attending, you will receive an invitation to come for a required orientation program. Our orientation programs are slightly different depending on what kind of student you are: a freshman, a transfer student or an international student.
If you have AP, IB, PSEO or college-level credits, be sure to send a copy of your transcript with your application to the Office of Admissions so we can give you appropriate credit for your work. This will also help you and your adviser choose the right classes for you during your first registration.
Freshman Orientation
For students who begin during fall semester, orientation is a two-day program. At freshman orientation you will meet other students, learn more about the University and its resources, spend a night in a residence hall, meet your adviser and register for classes
Transfer Orientation
As a transfer student, you can choose between two kinds of orientation sessions. One is an all-day session on campus. In the all-day session you will learn more about University resources, meet with an adviser and register for classes. The other is a half-day session where you complete part of your orientation using an online program. You then come to campus for a half-day session where you can visit a resource fair, meet with your adviser and register for classes.
International Student Orientation
As an international student, you are also required to attend the freshman or transfer orientation sessions, depending on your student status. You also attend an orientation provided by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
Parent Orientation
The University also provides an orientation session for parents of U of M freshmen, transfer and international students.
